Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Along with the increasing population and overall see traffic growth, the marine environment is exposed to pollution both from the land as well as from ships and the consequences are the loss of biodiversity and marine organisms. In order to prevent that, the European Union is making great efforts, but there is still the lack of efficiency in the preservation of the sea since there are great economical, political and other differences between countries, as well as the lack of financial resources and insufficient awareness of the existing problems. European Union has a major contribution to the protection of the sea and coastal areas by adopting legal acts that are binding to its Member States as well as for all the Mediterranean States that signed the conventions and protocols on that matter. In Croatia, The Croatian Boat Registry promotes these international norms with the purpose of increasing the safety and security of life and property at sea and inland waterways as well as protection of the environment of the sea and inland waterways.
