In this thesis was scrutinized in detail theme: drifting of the vessel. Motion of the vessel, i.e. navigation, represents basic purpose of every vessel because vessels are planned, projected and built in order to navigate seas, rivers and lakes. Before consideration of navigation and drifting of the vessel, a sort of introduction in the main theme was considered vessel as mean of transport. It was explained definition of vessel, it's main parts and characteristics, but also were presented terms which vessel need to satisfy in order to navigate, as well as properties of hydrodynamics of the vessel. Then, characteristics of the vessel were linked to it's maneuver specificity, i.e. navigation. There are whole of series of devices and equipment of the vessel which directly influence navigation and maneuvering. Mostly these are ship's wheel, ship's screw, anchors and ropes. There were explained terms under which vessel stops or jump-offs and changes velocity and revs. Also, there are exterior factors which influence navigation of a vessel, the most important ones are: wind, sea currents, waves and shallow water. At the end, in detail was analysed drifting of the vessel which is consequence of influence of wind and sea currents.
