Automation of marine propulsion and auxiliary systems, such as marine steam generator, is an extremely important segment, it includes everything that needs to be automated on the steam generator in order for it to work automatically (without crew action). The efficient operation of all systems is required for quality ship operating. One of the most important, and perhaps the most important systems is the marine steam generator or steam boiler. Marine steam generators are devices that produce steam under pressure,from the use of thermal energy of burned fuel in the boiler furnace. The steam produced in the boilers serves primarily as a working medium for starting the main ship's turbines, and for transferring heat energy to various auxiliary heating devices, such as the fuel tank heating system, oil, and the heating system of the main and auxiliary diesel engines. This paper will describe the parts and explain the principle of operation of a ship's steam generator and the principle of its automatic control and the regulation of segments of the steam generator itself such as: supply control of the boiler, fuel viscosity control, automatic burner control, overheating temperature control and load regulation. Proper regulation of these segments is extremely important for the proper operation of the boiler, and thus for the correc and safe operation of the ship's propulsion and its auxiliary systems and devices.
