LNG as a cargo demonstrates elasticity, flexibility and reliability. The epithets in the previous sentence can be assigned to LNG from the fact that natural gas is a rare commodity that recorded growth in 2020. New and small markets whose opening is due to the development of the LNG market will not have security in future gas demand so that they can build onshore terminals. In order to avoid the risks associated with the construction of onshore terminals, there is innovation in the gas industry and floating gasification units (FSRU), which are the main part of the thesis. The consequence of the expansion of the LNG market is the construction of an increasing number of FSRU ships. The time of realization of the FSRU project and capital costs are lower compared to the land terminals, and this was significantly reduced during the conversion of the LNG ship into the FSRU. It is important to note that the FSRU is still a ship and this provides significant flexibility. FSRU ships are treated in detail. The technical-technological segments of FSRU ships are presented. Finally, emphasis was placed on the LNG terminal on the island of Krk (Omišalj), which achieves the diversification of energy supply routes, which is extremely important for the Republic of Croatia.
