Abstract

Information technology has transformed many activities in recent years, from education and health to the public administration, and especially significant impacts are evident in the field of transport. Although it is generally considered that improving traffic and transport system of a country is carried through the construction of new roads or repairing suffice infrastructure, the future of transport is based primarily on the use of information technology. Information technology enables the components of the transport system, such as vehicles, roads, traffic lights, traffic signs and the like become smart by incorporating microchips and sensors into them and enabling them to communicate with each other through wireless technology. In this paper, a legal framework by which these intelligent transport systems are regulated in the European Union and the Republic of Croatia is considered.
