The paper analyzes the legal framework for the reception, stay, and dispatch of ships in Croatian ports, with particular emphasis on the harmonization of national legislation with international standards. Maritime law in the Republic of Croatia regulates various aspects of maritime traffic, including navigation safety, environmental protection, and the rights and obligations of shipowners and operators. The paper provides an overview of key laws and regulations, such as the Maritime Code, the Law on Maritime Property and Sea Ports, and relevant international conventions like SOLAS and MARPOL. Procedures related to the arrival, stay, and dispatch of ships are presented, including necessary documents, inspections, and permits. The role of port authorities and other competent bodies is highlighted through their responsibility for navigation safety and the enforcement of legal measures. Additionally, the paper addresses the challenges facing the Croatian legal system, including the need for digitalization and modernization of port operations, and alignment with international environmental standards. Opportunities for improvement are identified through the integration of advanced information and communication technologies and better coordination between competent bodies. Ultimately, the paper emphasizes the importance of continuous adaptation of the legal framework to ensure the competitiveness of Croatian ports in global maritime traffic and the protection of national interests, safety, and the environment.
