Abstract
Balastne vode koje ispuštaju brodovi i njihov štetni utjecaj na morski okoliš, predstavljaju jedan od najvažnijih problema današnjice, s kojim se susreće većina obalnih država. Svim brodovima je zajedničko da koriste vodeni balast zbog uspostavljanja ravnoteže i stabilnosti broda, kada je bez tereta. U zadnjih nekoliko desetljeća, štetni morski organizmi su putem brodova, u raznim dijelovima svijeta, nanijeli nepovratne promijene u morskom okolišu. U tom pogledu Međunarodna pomorska organizacija donijela je 2004. godine Međunarodnu konvenciju o nadzoru i upravljanju brodskim balastnim vodama i sedimentima, kako bi se prijenos štetnih morskih organizama smanjio i naposljetku potpuno uklonio. Stupanjem na snagu konvencije, dosadašnja primjena metoda izmjene balastnih voda, biti će zamijenjena sustavom obrade balastnih voda, te će stoga brodovi biti obvezni ugraditi neki od sustava obrade balastnih voda na brodu.
Abstract (english)
Water ballast discharged by the ships and their impact on the marine environment is one of the most important problems facing the majority of coastal states today. It is in common to all ships to use water ballast for establishing balance and stability of the ship when it is free of cargo. Over the last few decades, harmful marine organisms have been causing irreversible changes in marine environments through ships across the world. Hereof, the International Maritime Organization adopted the International Convention on the Control and Management of Boat Ballast Water and Sediments in 2004, in order to reduce the transmission of harmful marine organisms and ultimately to completely eliminate it. With the entry into force of this Convention, the current application of ballast water change methods will be replaced by Ballast Water Treatment System and therefore ships will be required to incorporate some of the ballast water treatment system on board.
