Abstract
Razvojem novih tehnologija dolazi do potražnje sve većih brzina i koliĉina prijenosa podataka kako u kopnenim sustavima tako i u pomorskim. Kako dosad korištena RF tehnologija dolazi do svojih limita, a svakodnevno se povećava broj korisnika te koliĉina informacija i podataka koje je potrebno obraditi kao jedna od mogućih zamjena RF tehniki nameće se uporaba svjetla za prijenos podataka. Kako je prijenos podataka pomoću svjetla koje se rasprostire optiĉkim nitima već u globalnoj upotrebi nameće se pitanje je li moguće tim svjetlom poslati podatke, a da se pritom ne koriste nikakvi prijenosni mediji. FSO tehnologija mogla bi dati odgovor na to pitanje. Odavno poznata tehnologija infracrvenog svjetla, tj. lasera može se primijeniti u svrhu prijenosa informacija kroz zrak. Kroz ovaj rad objasnit će se s kakvim se sve poteškoćama suoĉava ovakav prijenos informacija, kakva se vrsta opreme koristi te mogućnost primjene FSO tehnologije u pomorstvu.

Along with development of new technology comes demand of increasing the speed and amount of data both in land and maritime systems. As previously used RF technology comes to its limits, and the number of users and amount of information and data that must be processed rises everyday, as a possible replacement comes the use of light to transmit data. As the transmission of data using light that extends through optical fibers is already globally used, the question is if it's possible to use that same light without any portable media. FSO technology could provide the answer to that question. The long-known technology of infrared lights and laser can be used to transfer information through air. Trough this graduation thesis will be explained what kind of difficulties is this type of information transfer facing, what kind of equipment is used during this process as well as the use of the FSO technology in maritime.
