Abstract
Pretvorba solarne energije u električnu energiju zahvaljujući fotonaponskoj tehnologiji je najprepoznatljiviji način korištenja energije Sunca. Fotonaponska ćelija je temeljni blok fotonaponskog sustava i njezin princip rada je temeljni koncept kada se govori o fotonaponskoj tehnologiji. Fotonaponski sustavi nalaze sve veću primjenu u svakodnevnom životu i nameću se kao glavni izvor energije budućnosti. U prvom dijelu rada fokus je dan na fotonaponsku ćeliju, njezina svojstva, karakteristike, način rada i ulogu. U drugom dijelu rada predstavljeni su fotonaponski sustavi i mogućnost njihove primjene u novim rješenjima kao što su solarne ceste. Dva postojeća projekta na koje se skreće pažnja su SolaRoad i Solar Roadways, koji imaju za cilj zamjenu svih asfaltiranih površina izloženih suncu, kao što su ceste, autoceste, parkirališta, biciklističke staze i sl. sa solarnim modulima i tako iskoristiti energiju Sunca na značajnijoj skali.

Parallel abstract (English)
The conversion of solar energy into electricity due to photovoltaic technology is the most recognized way of using the energy of the Sun. The photovoltaic cell is the basic unit of a photovoltaic system and its operating principle is the underlying concept when talking about photovoltaic technology. Photovoltaic systems are increasingly used in everyday life and are imposed as the main energy source of the future. In the first part of the paper we focused on the photovoltaic cell, its properties, characteristics, operation and role. In the second part the photovoltaic systems are presented and the possibility of their application in new solutions such as solar roads. Two existing projects that drawn our attention are SolaRoad and Solar Roadways, which aim at replacing all paved surfaces exposed to the sun, such as roads, highways, parking lots, bike paths, etc., by solar modules and thus make use of solar energy on a much bigger scale.
