Abstract
Do danas je u svijetu izgrađeno oko 1 400 000 kilometara željezničke mreže, od čega 70 % se nalazi na području Europe. Dok su željeznice u Europi i svijetu sve razvijenije, brže i sigurnije, u Hrvatskoj su zapuštene i spore. Već dugi niz godina, željeznička infrastruktura je zastarjela i neprikladna, te su potrebna velika financijska sredstva i veliki graditeljski zahvati. Kao glavni potencijal i generator prijevoza željeznicom ističe se luka Rijeka. Luka Rijeka je dobro povezana s unutrašnjošću i sa zemljama srednje Europe, i omogućuje prihvat brodova s dubokim gazom. Izgradnja nove nizinske pruge ključan je element razvoja riječke luke i njene transformacije u ozbiljnu i konkurentnu europsku luku. Taj željeznički pravac važan je i za gospodarski i za prometni razvoj luke Rijeka i Hrvatske.
Abstract (english)
Until today, some 1 400 000 kilometers of railway network have been built in the world, of which 70% is located in Europe. While railways are increasingly developed, faster and safer in Europe and in the world, they are also neglected and slow in Croatia. For many years, railway infrastructure is outdated and inappropriate, and large financial resources and major construction work are needed. The main potential and generator of rail transportation is the port of Rijeka. Rijeka is well connected to the interior and with Central European countries, and allows the reception of ships with deep draft. The construction of a new lowland railroad is a key element in the development of Rijeka's port and its transformation into a serious and competitive European port. This railway is important for the economic and traffic development of the port of Rijeka and Croatia.
