The aim of every company, irrespectful of the activity at hand and its organizational structure, is the top-notch business effectiveness and the aspiration to always be ahead of the competition. Nowadays, when there is the increasing competition on the market and buyers and users demands, the need for the organizational changes becomes indespensable. The need for change is utmost within the organizational structure, outdated information technology, business processes and human resources of the organization. It is the business process re-engineering which entails radical and fundamental changes in these elements of the organization. Business Process Reengineering runs by its own rules and implementation modes, and it is neither simple nor easy to be carried out. The research in this paper was done on the example of the Port of Rovinj, i.e. the goal was to determine whether there was a need for business processes re-engineering. In order to determine this all the employees of the Port Authority were interviewed. This work is presented in the following manner: theoretical guidelines, methods and elements of re-engineering are given in the first part of the paper; the conducted survey, obtained and processed data in the second part.
